Sameer is a remarkable improvising artist on drumset and tabla
About Me
Sameer Gupta is an original musical voice in jazz, world, and fusion
music. His interest in music began in 1985 in Tokyo, Japan, and
continued on both coasts of the United States, across India, Europe,
and Africa. Sameer's composition dedicated to the late South African
jazz pianist Moses Molelekwa, Taiwa, was performed on Good Day New York FOX Channel 5 Morning
News Show, and is also a favorite composition of several renown recordings artists in New York. Sameer
has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Asagiri Jam in Japan, Birla Temple Hall in Kolkata, The Gateway
of India Music Festival in Mumbai, and various Jazz and World music festivals worldwide, playing both
tabla and drumset and sometimes both simultaneously.
Sameer began his studies of North
Indian Classical Tabla in 2002, and has the honor of studying with
tabla maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Sameer has creative
associations with artists including Marc Cary, Pt. Ramesh Mishra, Roy
Hargrove, Sekou Sundiata, Jason Samuels Smith, Richard Howell,
Srinivas Reddy, Prasant Radhkrishnan, Pt. Chitresh Das, and many other
noteworthy performers. He is currently residing in New York City
