Speaking transnational dialects of jazz...

About Me

I picked up the trumpet at age eight. My growth in jazz was slow, but ever steady. I distinctly remember when my ears truly opened to jazz--Miles Davis, “Freddie the Freeloader,” on a random car ride through Seattle, my home.

In May 2011, I graduated from Whitman College. I immediately began a year long journey to explore dialects of jazz around the world as a T.J. Watson Fellow. I’ve lived and performed in Sweden, India, South Africa, and Brazil. My goal is simple: to share my experiences, sights and sounds, triumphs and mistakes, through music... an experiential synesthesia.

As I continued on this journey, I become more and more interested in writing. A blog I started, eustisjazz.wordpress.com, quickly evolved from a simple means of sharing pictures, sound bites and stories. I now write to reflect on the new music I'm exposed to on a daily basis. I hope to more formally share my experiences with a wider audience on All About Jazz.
