Ron Hefner
English professor by day, jazz drummer by night
About Me
I came up in Columbus Ohio, a great town for jazz in the 60's. Organ trios and quartets were the thing. The great Don Patterson was in town when he wasn't touring (I eventually got to share a bandstand with him). Hank Marr, Rusty Bryant, and Bobby Pierce were all great influences.
After years on the road, I eventually wound up in Florida, where I got to work with Ira Sullivan and many other great jazz players.
Currently, I teach English at Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, and I play drums 3-4 nights a week at Ellington's on Sanibel Island, one of the few clubs in the whole country that features live jazz 7 nights a week.
