Roland Balogh
About Me
Roland Balogh was born in Budapest (Hungary) in 1984. He began playing guitar at the
age of 6 years, initially guided by his father and later by a private teacher. From 12 to 14
he attended the Oszk (Hungarian Jazz Music School). At 15 in Budapest he won the third
place of the contest International Jazz Festival together with his pianist twin brother. In
2001 he attended the music school Kőbánya; afterwards he took lessons from the
famous hungarian jazz guitarist, Gyula Babos. In 2007 he taken his high Level diploma of
jazz guitar in this school.
With Finucci Bros Quartet, which he founded in 2008, he won the second place in the
Hungarian competition “Jazz Combo”. In 2009 Roland won the Montreux Jazz Guitar
Competition, whose jury was chaired by Lee Ritenour.
At 2010 in Völklingen he won the
international competition „Voice and Guitar” . The same year in march he received the
scholarship „Dezső Ablakos Lakatos” and in november he was awarded with the Junior
Prize Prima, one of the most prestigious awards in Hungary. At 2012 he won the Jazzy
Radio’s song writing contest with his band Finucci Bros Quartet
At 2015 he won the 2nd place on the Wes Montgomery Jazz Guitar Competition in New
York.
