Richard T Bell

Jazz lover and photographer since I was a teen... quite some time ago now...

About Me

As a student in high school, I became very interested in photography, science and jazz. Growing up near Los Angeles, I was just minutes away from The Lighthouse Cafe and was fortunate enough to hear several great live performances there. Often, while catching the show, I'd bring along my very quiet old rangefinder loaded with Tri-X, and shooting only with natural light in an effort not to disturb the musicians. Over time, I was able to capture a few noteworthy images. In the years since, I have attended more festivals and performances and often brought along my camera some of those times. Looking back, I wish that I might have put more effort into capturing those performances photographically! As it is though, I have hundreds of photos and am now sharing a few here in the hopes they’ll kindle some memories and spread some joy. So far, there has actually been a reunion concert inspired by the sharing of a few of the images posted here. I might have never imagined such an outcome possible when I began sharing these. Thank you for your interest.

My Jazz Story

Since I'm a lover of music and I've been taking photos of jazz musicians on and off for many years, I thought it about time that I share some of my images. I have many photos in my files and my hope is that others might enjoy them. This is a great site in that it allows those of us who love jazz and photography to share our work! I'm starting with just a couple of photos and will be adding more as I have time. Feel free to contact with with any questions or comments. Rich
