About Me

Born in Austria and raised in Germany, Richard grew up taking classical clarinet lessons and performing in various roles in school productions. After attending a local Jazz concert around the age of 15, he and a few co-students spontaneously founded a Dixieland band and ended up playing together for 8 years. At the age of 20, he begged a Jazz band from Munich take him along on their trip to New Orleans where he had his first taste of the kindness of the musicians there and purchased an old metal clarinet that he still plays today. Since 2001, Richard has been living in Minneapolis with his wonderful wife, and in 2013 (some 19 years after his first visit), he finally made it back to New Orleans and is planning on going back as often as possible. After this last trip, he decided to finally look for a band of his own. He is currently not performing.

My Jazz Story

Originally, growing up playing clarinet left me somewhat empty - until I discovered the joy that is Jazz. Playing Traditional Jazz fills so many holes in my soul and allows it to flow freely.
