About Me

I have been playing and teaching music professionally for thirty-five years, in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific area.

A lifetime of musical experiences, from small ensemble gigs to orchestral and big band work has undoubtedly given me a very broad outlook towards life as a musician and teacher.

Recently, I moved from the Byron district of NSW, where I was co-leader of an acoustic roving/stage jazz band for four years, as well as other projects.

As a leader, I can offer several alternatives.

Firstly, I have a jazz group; “The Hot Jazz Ramblers” a versatile outfit that can play in any style, usually four piece but can be enlarged.

Secondly, I lead “The Universal Saxophone Quartet” which is also a versatile well-rehearsed group, playing music in several genres, classical, jazz, early English and folk music.

I am available for studio session and freelancing gigs, having spent a lot of time in recording studios. As a musician, I can improvise well, read and interpret written music, being a composer and arranger, with membership in APRA, AMEB, and MUA etc.

In my time, I've probably played every style of music that there is, including the complete version of “The Messiah” by Handel, with full orchestra, two hundred choir and soloists.
