My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's an evolutionary entity; it's continually growing, changing, and reaching higher heights, and all who engages in it - listener and performer alike - are taken on that path and pattern of exploration and transcendence. I was first exposed to jazz when I was rather young, as my father listened to jazz quite frequently. But it wasn't until I was just a few days shy of the age of sixteen that I actually engaged jazz out of my own volition. I've met Brian Gore, Lulo Reinhardt, Greg Williamson, John Hansen, John Pizzarelli, and Pat Metheny The best show I've ever attended was a Pat Metheny concert at Jazz Alley in Seattle in summer of 2012. The first jazz record I bought was "Miles Smiles". One of my favorite albums. My advice to new listeners would be to not be intimidated by possibly not knowing where to start or who to listen to; try listening to one artist/composer and then gradually branch out by listening to people they've played with, and then people those people have played with, and so on, until you've heard a ton of people and compositions/renditions.
