My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to jazz when visiting my grandfather in Detroit. There I first met my Aunt Terry, who was an entertainer from Chicago. I was only 7 years old and she was very classy, glamorous and even looked like a movie star. She even had a white poodle. I didn’t know exactly what being an entertainer entailed, but from that moment on I knew whatever she did I wanted to do that too. She was kind and took a sincere interest in me. She introduced me to the musical sounds of Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington and Dionne Warwick. From then on I listened to all types of music and began to hone my vocal style and took piano lessons.
