About Me
Female Singer, Songwriter & Jazz Musician
Rebecca Martin’s journey spans over two decades. In musical circles, she is critically acclaimed and a revered female singer and songwriter, recognized nationally and internationally as a modern day jazz singer. Her new recording ‘Twain” will be released in January, 2013 on Sunnyside Records that features Rebecca and her husband, the great jazz bassist Larry Grenadier. A professional jazz musician, Martin has eight critically acclaimed albums to her credit and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Village Vanguard, Montreal Jazz Festival and with Paul Motian, amongst many other venues and musicians. In the 1990s she had success as a singer-songwriter, performing in the group Once Blue, which recorded twice for EMI Records. Rebecca Martin has sang regularly in the East Village and Lower East Side NYC jazz music scene with a rotating group of musicians, many of whom are now first-tier jazz performers, including saxophonist Bill McHenry, guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel and bassist Ben Street, as well as drummers Kenny Wolleson, Jeff Ballard and Jorge Rossy. A native of Rumford Point, Maine who worked as an engineer in a recording studio as a teenager, she lists Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones as major influences. She has worked as a MTV production manager, a chef and was Executive Director for many years of the Kingston Land Trust, an urban land trust. She currently lives with her husband and son in the Hudson Valley.
