I love jazz because...My mother was a jazz pianist, starting with her first band when she was 15 yrs old, Polly and Her Pals, near Cleveland, OH. I was first exposed to jazz...in the womb, I like to say. My mom probably played just about every day during my gestation. I've met so many jazz artists, but one thing I will mention, I was kissed, and I mean KISSED, by Stephane Grappelli once after his concert at Chastain Park, Atlanta, where I lived for 15 yrs and met many jazz artists, including Oscar Peterson playing across the street from Herbie Hancock one night. The best show I ever attended - far too many to mention, yet try to pick the best-my first was great, one of the two times I got to see Dizzy. The first jazz record I bought was - I couldn't tell you, there were a lot of them in my house as I grew up.
