My Jazz Story

I fell in love with jazz through Brazilian music, a funny way to land in American jazz, but American jazz was a great influence on Brazilian music — so I learned all the Brazilian bossa standards and then went on to listen to all the American jazz vocalists. I love the creativity, the play of jazz. I love the songs. And I love to add my own take on it all. I also play some pop (but in my way, on an acoustic classical guitar—different!), folk and originals, and I sing in 13 languages, ranging from Brazil/Latin America, to Europe and the Middle East and Africa. I also have developed a repertoire of original songs. I've been inspired!! My website: www.phyllischapell.com

My House Concert Story

I play house concerts, usually with the great horn player Ken Ulansey. Once a year, a Valentine's Day House Concert and others as well throughout the year. It's always a lovely, intimate and joyful experience to be sharing music in someone's home.
