Petros Klampanis

About Me

Petros Klampanis is born on July 1981 in Zakynthos, Greece. There he had his first music lessons- theory and classical piano. He also started playing electric bass and being member of local pop and rock bands. After finishing high school he moved to Athens to attend the polytechnic school of the city. It took him about 2 years to realize that the navigating study was not for him. He decided to give exams for the musicology department of Athens University, where he was accepted in 2001.While being in Athens he had the chance to have lessons with many important Greek musicians : Sylvios Syrros-jazz improvisation, Yiotis Kiourtsoglou-electric bass, Takis Kapogiannis- classical double bass, Giorgos Kyriakakis- classical harmony and counterpoint. During the same period he met and played with many Greek jazz artists (Antonis Ladopoulos, Spyros Manesis, Giannis Papanastasiou, Sami Amiri, Thanasis Zervas). He has taken part in various musical projects (Athens Big Band) and played in many venues in Greece (Megaron Mousikis Athens, Megaron Mousikis Thessalonika, etc.). He lives in Amsterdam, since September of 2005, where he attends the double bass department of the Amsterdam Conservatory. Frans van der Hoeven, Arnold Dooyeweerd and Ernst Glerum are among his teachers. P.K. has toured in many European countries (Germany, Holland, Luxemburg, Belgium, France, Spain, Monaco, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus) and taken parts in festivals such us: Den Hague Jazz (NL), Bingen Swingt Jazz Festival (GER), Amersfoort Jazz Festival (NL), Breda Jazz Festival (NL), Enschede Jazz Festival (NL), Bansko Jazz Fesival (BG). He has also taken part in competitions such as YPF International Jazz Concours (2nd prize, Cesar Latorre trio) and Amersfoort Jazz Competition (2nd prize, JaZZest). In 2006 he created 3park, a trio formation playing his own compositions, with Andreas Polyzogopoulos on trumpet and effects and Rui Ramos Pereira on drums.
