About Me

I'm originally from the outskirts of Helsinki. Having aimed my artistic tendencies at visual arts as a child, I turned to music as a teenager. Originally self taught, I studied some classical guitar before finding my way to the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Helsinki to focus on jazz. I spent the last half of 1996 in United Kingdom studying piano under Nikki Iles and guitar with Mike Walker and Pete Sklaroff. Ample gig opportunities have given me a chance to deepen my understanding of jazz music; I've played with Leroy Jones and Ed Thigpen, among others. I feel that individual expression stems from knowing the history of the music and one’s relationship to it. These days I divide my time between teaching, playing gigs and other music-related activities.
