About Me
Patricia López is an outstanding Uruguayan saxophonist, flutist, teacher, composer and producer with more than twenty years of national and international experience. She studied in many cities around the world, graduating from the Manuel de Falla Conservatory (Buenos Aires) as a Superior Jazz Technician (saxophone specialty). At the same time, she received two scholarships from FONAM (Uruguaian Music Fond) and MEC (Ministry of Culture of Uruguay) to continue specializing in jazz, improvisation, composition, and Brazilian popular music in Brazil, New York, and Holland. Some of her teachers were: Carlos Lastra, Ricardo Cavalli, Ramiro Flores, Ernesto Jodos, Carlos Malta, Josué Dos Santos, Floriaan Wempe, Michael Moore, Tony Malaby, Tim Berne, and Rich Perry. At the teaching level, Patricia conducted improvisation, ensemble, and Uruguayan music workshops at Thelonious (Santiago de Chile), Elmont Memorial High School (Long Island, NYC), Arco de Tacuabé (Maldonado, Uruguay), Casa da música (Porto Alegre, Brazil), and Casa das Artes Regina Simonis (Santa Cruz, Brazil). In 2020 she released her first album WANDERLUST developing her compositional personality within jazz and creative music. The album was chosen by the Graffiti Awards for Uruguayan Music as Best Jazz Album 2021, resulting in Patricia being the first woman to receive the award in this category. This first work is inspired by her travels and residences in different cities around the world. An inner search through melodies, contemporary harmonies, nuances, and creative textures. With strong communication and group improvisation, each composition represents a new landscape, inviting us to travel through all the senses. WANDERLUST received numerous positive reviews from the world press and prominent musicians, such as the following quote from American saxophonist Greg Osby: Patricia López has put together a wonderful collection of very personal musical stories with her new project Wanderlust. Her music reflects a humanistic quality, full of emotion and innocence. This ambitious recording offers the listener the opportunity to experience the world as they hear it through their wide range of textures and sounds. Throughout her career, she led and joined many groups, big bands and orchestras with prominent local and international musicians and performed at multiple festivals, highlighting: Washington Woman in Jazz Festival (2021 edition with the support of Ibermúsicas and 2022 edition invited by Amy Bormet),Valparaíso International Jazz Festival (Chile, 2019 - 2022), Montevideo Jazz Tour Festival (2019),Dexter Gordon Tribute ( Jazz Tour Festival 2022 and Teatro Casa de la Cultura of Maldonado 2023), Cutting Edge Festival(Holland 2017),North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland 2017), VI International Saxophone Meeting of Montevideo(Sala Verdi 2023),Distrito Jazz Festival (Porto Alegre, Brazil 2023), Santa Cruz Jazz & Blues Festival (Santa Cruz, Brazil 2023), and Jazz entre amigos (La pedrera, Uruguay, 2024).
