About Me
My Jazz Story
Six years ago I went to guitar camp. I was just beginning to play guitar and heard this camp was fun. After I got there, I put my guitar in a corner
of the room and there it stayed the whole time because I discovered JAZZ!! Well, actually I discovered there were workshops related to jazz
singing and very recently I had discovered I loved singing jazz! So “Goodbye Peter, Paul and Mary. Goodbye Beatles. Hello Sarah, Ella, Diana,
and more! “ I found my passion. Singing jazz. I felt like Harry Potter must have felt when he discovered he could do magic. I could do jazz. I’ve
been singing every since. I have fallen completely in love with jazz standards, which is actually the music I grew up with because my father
played those records all the time! Photos of Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, The Dorsey Brothers and other great jazz musicians
graced the wall of our basement party room! It wasn’t until guitar camp that I realized what jazz standards were. Now, several bands and many
performances later, I am as in love with jazz as I was at the beginning. I am still exploring the stories and a way to tell them through singing.
And still dancing to jazz tunes in my head. I love keeping this genre alive and sharing it with those who wish to hear me.
My House Concert Story
When I first started singing jazz I hosted a combination jazz musicians and Americana performers. The Americana performers had a different
audience from the jazz musicians. The concerts took place in a local community center which didn’t serve alcohol. The audiences were
frequently made up of friends who came to support the performers. I had met a number of the Americana performers in guitar camp and
wanted to provide a venue for them to play in public. Many went on to find their own gigs to perform in. My band and i were frequently the jazz
performers. I sometimes invited guest jazz players and singers to join us or perform alone. I ran this venue for a year or so and finally moved on.
I had a potluck party to celebrate the close and invited all who had played in the venue. It was a delightful farewell to a fun time.
