Nina Beck, Professional Pianist & Vocalist; Keyboard bass, flute
About Me
A professional jazz pianist/vocalist performing for 30 years, Nina studied with the
acclaimed late John Lewis as well as with Don Friedman while obtaining her BA in Music at
CCNY, NYC. In L.A., she has studied with Milcho Leviev and Terry Trotter. Nina plays
nearly 900 songs in any key without music, possesses absolute pitch, and is a published
songwriter with a wide variety of well-crafted songs, having studied privately with the late
Jack Segal at the Songwriters Guild. Credits include legendary Ernie Andrews and noted
jazz artists Leslie Baker, Donald Dean, Clarence Johnston, Doug MacDonald, Bill Markus,
Rory Mazzela, Matt Otto, Ralph Penland, Cathy Segal-Garcia, Jimmy Spencer, Scott
Whitfield, and Johnny Vana. She also plays keyboard bass, and flute.
Nina served as accompanist in a classical music concert, for an original work composed by
fine cellist Harriet Katz, formerly of Local 47. Venues where Nina has performed and/or
headlined include Cafe' 322, Cavallino, Colombo’s, Jax, The Lighthouse, Lunaria,
Maggiano’s, The Money Tree, Mr. B, Sangria, The Smokehouse, and Spazio; she headlined
monthly from June '06 through May '07 as a solo piano/vocal act at Bistro 400 in Santa
Ana, and she performed regularly at Hip Kitty Restaurant and Jazz Club in Claremont with
great tenor man Billie Harris from 2007 to 2009. Since 2008, she has performed every
Sunday evening at Casey's Tavern in Canoga Park with Woody James & his Jelly Roll Jazz
Band, a Dixieland & classic swing sextet, as well as with award-winning
writer/producer/director/talk show host Andy Cowan, a powerful crooner of Sinatra hits &
many other American Songbook swing, classic Latin, blues, & jazz tunes. She & Andy are
currently appearing at The Smokehouse Restaurant in Burbank, CA, as well as at the R Bar
at the Renaissance Hotel-Los Angeles Airport.
