Nathan East

About Me

Bassist/Producer Nathan East is a founding member of contemporary jazz supergroup Fourplay along with Bob James, Harvey Mason & Lee Ritenour/Larry Carlton/Chuck Loeb.

While still a teenager, East drew the attention of Barry White, becoming a member of the Love Unlimited Orchestra. Since then, he has recorded, toured and co-written songs with Anita Baker, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Babyface, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and co-wrote the hit “Easy Lover” with Phil Collins and Philip Bailey. His background in jazz and pop has earned him most valuable player at the International Rock Awards and “Bassist of the Year” at the National Smooth Jazz Awards. East is one of the original members of contemporary jazz group Fourplay along with Bob James and Harvey Mason, and has developed his own Signature Series bass guitar for Yamaha. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from University of California San Diego and has authored several critically acclaimed instructional videos.
