My Jazz Story

I've loved jazz since my early teens. I grew up in Israel and absorbed a lot of the teachings of great musicians who lived in NY for years and have played with jazz greats and studied with Barry Harris and then came back and taught us kids. People like Amit Golan, Ofer Ganor, Amos Hoffman etc. I then moved to NY when I was 19 and went to the New School where I got to study with a lot of my idols, that was a very formativee time and I'm fortunate to have experienced that. As time went on, I found myself more and more interested in music from Africa, mainly East Africa- Ethiopia and I started the band Anbessa Orchestra which has garnered a name in the afro-groove scene in NY and held a residency at Barbes in Park Slope. Nowadays I'm based in Los Angeles and still go to NY often. Playing jazz and African music/ soul/ funk and R&B.
