Miguel De Armas

Cuban born pianist based in Ottawa crossing over Latin Jazz and World Music

About Me

Miguel De Armas is a Cuban born versatile pianist, composer and recording artist, weaving together strands of Cuban and American jazz influences in a compellingly and eclectic way. Miguel has recently brought his musical talent to Ottawa, which he considers his adopted home. His hope is introducing Canadians to the work of an original Cuban talent whose performance is nothing short of a master class of original Cuban jazz rhythms. Miguel made his Canadian debut with his Trio at the Ottawa Jazz Festival in 2012, and his Quartet at The National Arts Centre 4th Stage for the 2013 Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival. He has also performed at the Latin American Film Festival and Upstairs and the House of Jazz in Montreal. Miguel’s influences include Chucho Valdés, Emiliano Salvador, Frank Emilio, Chick Corea, Keith Jarret, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, Oriente Lopez, Herbie Hancock, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Miguel has repeatedly toured the world participating in major international Jazz festivals. A sampling of these includes the Ottawa Jazz Festival, North Sea, Montreux, Nice, Nantes, Normandy, Color Café, Río de Janeiro, Barranquijazz, Cancun, to name but a few.
