About Me
Melanie Futorian is the author of “Don Alias, Stories of a Legendary Percussionist, which received five stars on Amazon and favorable reviews in magazines. Her book can be found in The Boston Public Library, Berklee College of Music Library and was required reading for New York University’s percussion department . Her book was listed on WGBH 24/7 Jazz Booklist. Melanie’s children’s book, “What If…” was just released on Amazon. She’s written feature articles for Dance Teacher Magazine, Jazzespresso.com and had her own column, “Cymbalism” in All About Jazz.com. In 2021, Melanie received an honorable mention for her novel, Rub from Miami’s Emerging Writer Fellowships. Melanie created short I Phone films which won 7 awards and were selected for over 55 international and national film festivals during the Covid Pandemic years. She was a former dancer with Boston and New York companies, her choreography premiered at major New York dance festivals. As well, she’s taught/choreographed for highly respected dance studios. Melanie’s been a camera woman /audio engineer for The United Nations, CNN News and other networks. She’s also been a photographer for the United Nations, New York dance companies and jazz musicians. Her photography’s appeared in All About Jazz.com, The New York Times, Downbeat and Jazz Times. Melanie received 2 Grammy Certificates for her CD photography for Pablo Ziegler's Jazz Tango and Arturo O'Farrills. Four Questions. Her play Mel's Kitchen will go Off Broadway in 2025.
