About Me

Matt Peterson is a multi-award-winning classical & jazz pianist, composer and bandleader in the greater Chicago area. He maintains a frequent performing schedule in and around Chicago, including playing with the Joffrey Ballet. His newest album, Better Worlds, released in 2023, features 10 original compositions in a mix of traditional and contemporary jazz styles, as well as an inventive cover of the Beatles' classic “Blackbird.” The album was recorded at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago.

With double Bachelor's degrees in Classical Piano and Music Composition as well as a Masters in Jazz Studies from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington, Matt is also a music educator, with an independent private studio of over 30 students. He also teaches jazz combos and has taught at the Bellas Artes School of Music jazz camp since its inception in 2018.

Matt has also composed for film, TV, and live theater productions, as well as composing, performing, and recording two albums of classical compositions, The Paradise Suite, and The Bridge.
