Jazzway 6004 -where every ticket is a backstage pass!
Jazzway 6004 is a house concert jazz series and a creative arts 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Jazzway 6004 is a creative arts 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization and concert series venue, that presents 6 to 8 concerts per year. Our goals are to build a diverse community of jazz listeners in Baltimore and the surrounding areas, to expand our reach to more of the US through streaming, to present the best in local and touring jazz, to foster jazz education, and to benefit nonprofits that advance the quality of life in Baltimore. Jazzway's listening environment is in Baltimore County, near Lake Roland Park. The location is the home of jazz vocalist Marianne Matheny-Katz and her husband, businessman Howard Katz. The elegant mid-century modern home was built in 1966 by a well-known Baltimore bookie who hosted lavish, high-profile soirees at the house. Local legend has it that both Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were guests here. Marianne and Howard purchased the house in 2005 and completely refurbished the home and moved in at the end of 2006. When thinking about how to best put their ground floor to good use, the Katzes decided to create a casual listening room that they would open to the public. Their first concert took place on June 1, 2007. THE VENUE 2007-2020 Between 2007 and 2020, the Katzes hosted between 6 and 12 concerts per year at Jazzway, featuring an impressive roster of local, national and international jazz luminaries. The list includes, Warren Wolf, Rachel Price, Craig Alston, Eric Kennedy, Tim Warfield, Todd Marcus, Cyrus Chestnut, Antonio Hart, Tim Green, Terell Stafford, Nicolas Payton, Orrin Evans, JD Walter, Jay Clayton, Gary Thomas, Sean Jones, Curtis Fuller, Larry Willis, Winard Harper, Jimmy Greene, Karin Allyson, Charenee Wade, Nicki Parrot, Tia Fuller and Benny Golson, and many others The warm, comfortable and welcoming space at Jazzway 6004 is the ideal setting to experience live music and then mingle with the artists afterwards with a cup of coffee, glass of wine AND homemade desserts. Jazzway has presented over 90 concerts since opening in 2007. In the words of saxophonist and educator, Tim Warfield “There is NOTHING like Jazzway ANYWHERE on the east coast and probably in the US. It’s an experience, not just a venue. Jazzway closed in March 2020 due to Covid-19. The Present and Beyond 2023 After 3+ years, Jazzway reopened for a holiday concert on December 23rd with audience favorite, saxophonist Tim Warfield and his outstanding Jazzy Christmas program. Tim brought an A-list band to an enthusiastic and sold-out audience. The band featured Tim Warfield on saxophones, Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Georgia Heers on vocals, Clarence Penn on drums, Terell Stafford on trumpet, Rodney Whitaker on bass and Warren Wolf on vibraphone. Jazzway 6004 presented full concert series in both 2024 and 2025 and introduced a livestream option with a non-expiring video link for anyone who purchases a streaming pass. We look forward to welcoming back our loyal patrons, new friends and of course, our favorite musical artists. Our 2024 Anniversary concert on June 9th was our biggest event yet! Warren Wolf presented his History of the Vibraphone with Warren on vibraphone, Alex Brown on piano, Kendrick Scott on drums and special guest and eight-time Grammy winner, Christian McBride on bass! Our upcoming events will be listed on the “events and tickets” page as we finalize booking them. Our 2026 season began on May 9th at 8:00 PM with the incomparable vocalist Sharon Clark and The Chris Grasso Trio, followed by the Jazzway 16th Anniversary Show on June 13th at 8:00 PM, featuring vibraphonist Warren Wolf and his special guest Joe Locke with Vibes X 2! Our fall concerts are on September 19th - Jazz and Art elevation with music by guitarist Ronny Smith and visual art by AJ Wheeler and December 12th - Delandria Mills-Mills and her band with Home for the Holidays.
