About Me

Maria Giovanna Barletta, Diploma in pianoforte conseguito nel 2006 presso il Conservatorio “Niccolò Piccinni” di Bari. Laurea magistrale in Musicologia e Beni Musicali, conseguita nel 2012 presso l’Università di Padova con tesi sperimentale intitolata “Il jazz svedese dal secondo dopoguerra ai pianisti contemporanei”. Collabora con diverse testate specializzate tra le quali “Il Manifesto”, con la Rai, collabora con la casa editrice Suvini – Zerboni di Milano, ed è curatrice del catalogo delle opere del Fondo Giorgio Gaslini a Lecco.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's amazing I was first exposed to jazz with Dee Dee Bridgewater, I was 3 years old. I met Giorgio Gaslini, Omar Sosa, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jan Garbarek, Trilok Gurtu, Mats Gustafsson, Bruno Tommaso, Franco D'Andrea, Roberto Bonati, Alessandro Fabbri, Paolo Fresu, Raffaele Casarano, Rita Marcotulli, Nguyen Lee, Jan Lundgren, Magnus Ostrom, Noa, Enrico Pieranunzi, Laurie Anderson, Blixa Bargeld, maria Pia De Vito, ecc... The first jazz record I bought was Bill Evans,"From Left to Right", Verve Records – 557 451-2, 1998 My advice to new listeners to be open mind
