My Jazz Story

Maria Cueto is a musician, specialized in singing, with 20 years of experience in jazz, lyrical singing and rock. Since 2009 she has performed in many concerts in the most important jazz clubs in Buenos Aires. Thus, Maria becomes one of the most active figures of the local jazz scene. She presented her 1st album in 2012, “Safe and Sound”. In 2015 she released “Celebrating Love”, her 2nd album. She is currently composing the new material for her 3er album, which will come soon. She has been a music graduate since 2013. In 2014 she studied at Berklee College of Music, at the Umbria Jazz Festival, and toured in Barcelona. She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Buenos Aires. In 2021 she specialized in Performing Arts Industry Essentials at New York University, for which she was awarded an online scholarship. For 10 years she has taught singing, music language, jazz appreciation and history of jazz, melodic improvisation techniques and others. As for singing, she teaches different aspects of vocal technique from different techniques, such as Rabine, Bel Canto, Speech level, and the different physical relaxation techniques. She teaches what the student requires: Head voice, chest, mixed, belting, resonances, twang, repertoire, recognition of register, choice of own timbre and handling harmonics of the voice, correction of diction and pronunciation in Spanish and English and especially jazz singing, among others. Maria was host of the program Discos de Jazz at Radiopos.com, a radio station from Colombia, where she made her first international tour in 2012. She is part of the Argentine Jazz Circuit, as a representative of the City of Buenos Aires. Since 2016 she is the director of BA Jazz Magazine, a Spanish jazz website that started as the only printed jazz magazine in Argentina between 2015 and 2020 and today is an online website and a fruitful teaching channel at Youtube.com/bajazzmagazine BA Jazz Magazine website offers online courses, educational videos and press services. Maria won several scholarships and awards for this project and in 2022 she produced and directed the documentary/training workshop 'The Role of Women in the Music Industry', with the support of the National Arts Fund.
