Lorenn Peer
About Me
It has been a very long time since I have spent an evening listening to a well rehearsed, musical, intensely swinging group! I hope that these thoughts encourage you to seek out this group!
- RON CARTER
Her rich and dynamic voice, combined with her elegant beauty and captivating stage presence, are sure to take you on a journey you will not forget. (Baiser Salle review, Paris)
Raised en route New York/Tel Aviv, Lorenn was exposed to a wide array of musical influences: From traditional Jewish/Yiddish and Israeli folklore, to the voices of Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra, and to the horns of Jazz giants such as Chet Baker and John Coltrane. Lorenn is the daughter of a musician father and of a New York fashion coordinator mother, who at a very young age instilled in her a deep passion and devotion for music and art.
Lorenn graduated from the highly selective Performing Arts High School located at the heart of New York City’s Lincoln Center. The school (made famous by the TV series and motion picture FAME)provided Lorenn with extensive musical training both in Classical music and Jazz.
Following high school, Lorenn rejected the mundane path of her peers and instead of heading off to college, she decided to leave her family behind in New York, and volunteered for full service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). After an arduous audition process, Lorenn was accepted as a soloist in the Representative Official IDF Band.
Throughout her two-year service, Lorenn performed for soldiers nationwide (including the Gaza Strip and the Lebanese & Jordanian borders.). She also performed at various public and private official Israeli Government and military affairs for audiences that included various world leaders.
She was asked to join (then) Prime Minister Eihud Barak on his State Visit to Turkey, following the devastating 1999 earthquake. Lorenn performed at the official opening of “Israel Villiage” - a village Israel had built in Turkey, for the earthquake survivors. Along with the IDF Band, Lorenn also toured Russia, Belarus and the United States.
Upon her return to New York, Lorenn continued her music education at the City College of New York, where she studied with the legendary Jazz Vocalist, Ms. Sheila Jordan.
Lorenn later joined (in music and in marriage...) Saxophonist Dror Ben-Gur to form the LORENN & THE TOP DROR JAZZ BAND . Together they performed in many Paris Jazz clubs at the famed Jazz alley of Rue Des Lombards. They had recently performed at high scale events at The Pierre and Waldorff Astoria in New York City.
Lorenn is a recipient of the Chazen Scholarship Rewarding Acedemic Excellence, as well as a recipient of the Cowin Scholarship. She is also a winner of the Cooch Songwriting Competition for her own originally composed song, titled “White Night.”.
In addition to her music, Lorenn is an experienced potter and ceramicist, as well as a Jewelry maker.
