My Jazz Story
I love jazz because it is so
liberating. I can express
myself my way. Hopefully it
will inspire others and bring
joy to their lives as it does to
mine. I was first aware of
being exposed to jazz at the
age of 15 when I was playing
"drop the needle" on my
mom's 78 RPM record player.
After I dropped the needle on
Tommy Dorsey's "I'm Getting
Sentimental Over You," that
was it for me. I played along
with that record until I could
play every note just like he
did. That sweet style is how
I've wanted to play ever
since. After that, I played
along with everything,
emulating the style of every
artist I listened to. My jazz
education started with that
record player. We didn't have
a jazz program at my high
school. Little did I know
where it would later take me.
