Laurie Fagen sings classic jazz with a fresh spin

With extensive vocal and instrumental music training, long-time Valley resident Laurie
Fagen of Chandler has performed in large award-winning choral groups, madrigals and
smaller singing groups. Her first instrument was clarinet, followed by oboe and then alto
and tenor sax, where she played in a highly-acclaimed, award-winning jazz band that
traveled throughout the Midwest, playing with such greats as trumpeter Clark Terry.
Fagen spent many years singing and dancing in musical stage productions for
professional and community theatre in the Phoenix area, and performed contemporary and
pop tunes in the Valley for events, private parties and other settings. Switching to classic
jazz, Fagen is booked regularly in clubs and restaurants and for corporate and public
events, public private parties and other settings.

My Jazz Story
I was first exposed to jazz by the late great Jack Oatts, our jazz band leader in a small Midwestern town in Iowa, where I played alto and tenor sax. I sang in many other genres after that, but recently came back to jazz and all that early training has served me well.
