KRYSTOF (Krzysztof) MEDYNA is a Polish/American jazz musician who has been performing for over 50 years. He started his musical career in Poland, and before he came to the US, he played for 3 years in Sweden and was touring in the former Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. Described as a “powerful, hair-raising reed player,” Medyna has performed in many well-known clubs, such as The Five Spot, St. Peter’s Church, and Cornelia Street Cafe, as well as Blue Note in NYC, Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington, DC, Blues Alley in Washington, DC, and Keystone Korner in Baltimore, MD. Medyna performed, inter alia, in the Congress Hall in Warsaw, the Town Hall Theater in Manhattan, the Philharmonic Hall and the Amphitheater in Szczecin, and the Philharmonic Hall in Słupsk. For decades, together with Andrzej Winnicki, he was a co-leader of fusion jazz group Breakwater (CD In the Bush in 1999, Breakwater in 2022, and Breakwater Live in New York City 1993-1995 in 2023). In 1979, during the festival Jazz on the Oder they were awarded the first prize. Krzysztof won the first prize as a soloist as well. As a co- leader of Komeda Project, he has released Crazy Girl (2007), Requiem (2009), and From a Familiar Place as WM Project (2017). Since 2015, he has been performing with legendary Polish/American pianist Adam Makowicz as a duo, with whom he released the CD Makowicz & Medyna, New York Flavors. Since 1995, Krystof has been a performing member of the Emotionalists, an international artistic group founded in 1994 on the initiative of a well-known sculptor, Prof. Lubomir Tomaszewski. On June 10, 2004, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded Krzysztof Medyna the Gold Cross of Merit. On October 21, 2025, the Jury of the Outstanding Pole in the USA Competition, New York, awarded Krzysztof Medyna the ”Outstanding Pole in the USA” award.
