Keith Hatschek

Jazz-loving educator, author and lifelong student of music and the arts.

About Me

After a 25-plus year in the music industry as a performer, engineer, producer and music executive, Keith Hatschek became a full time educator, directing the Music Management program at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA for two decades. He has written four books on the music industry. His latest book The Real Ambassadors: Dave and Iola Brubeck and Louis Armstrong Challenge Segregation received the ASCAP Virgil Thomson/Deems Taylor Award for Best Popular Music Book of 2023. The book tells the story of the Brubeck’s jazz musical, The Real Ambassadors, and how the all-star, multi-racial cast fought to bring attention to the civil right movement at a time when America was struggling to address systemic racism.
