I love jazz because my family loves jazz. I was first exposed to jazz as a little girl. My mom would order jazz albums on a weekly basis; my uncle would sing jazz songs all the time and my grandmother exposed us to jazz every summer when we went to visit. I met Nancy Wilson, my favorite jazz artist, when my best friend won front row tickets to her concert and again, when I took my Mom to see her. The best show I ever attended, however, was Grover Washington Jr. and Phyllis Hyman. My advice to new listeners is that you learn the history of jazz nationally and in your community. You will find that it is very colorful and enlightening!
