About Me

Katrina Yang is a music journalist with background in performance and composition. Born into a house of literature and art, Katrina started her journey as a writer at a young age. She published her first e-book at the age of 14, which led to a two-year contract of serial fiction. As a musician herself, her ability to understand and connect to artists and their projects is imprinted in her writing. She regularly contributes to multiple magazines and sites.

My Jazz Story

One thing I love about jazz is how the older generations guide and teach the younger generations. The younger generations then grow from this experience and form their own groups. This tradition is something that makes jazz really special. I met Joe LaBarbera during my study at California Institute of the Arts, where he has been teaching since 1993. I was fortunate enough to be in his Jazz History class. It was truly an honor to learn from the great jazz drummer of Bill Evans and hear his early story, such as sharing an apartment with Chet Beker.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
