About Me

And the songbird keeps on singing....

”Kat Gang is an excellent singer. She moves people” -Jonathan Schwartz, WNYC “Whether fully embracing a standard, or the ability to bare one’s soul, there’s no lack of talent in the styling of Kat Gang.” -Gary Walker, WBGO New album out September 9th, 2016 entitled “Love and the Lack Thereof”! Love and the Lack Thereof is a beautifully crafted and passionate example of some of the best vocal jazz available today. The album features Kat Gang’s romantic, sly, and swinging take on lesser-known gems from the American Songbook, from the Lerner and Lane classic “My Shining Hour” to the bittersweet “Nobody’s Heart (Belongs To Me)” by Rodgers and Hart. The musicianship here is outstanding, with Mike Renzi leading the way as pianist/arranger alongside Jay Leonhart on bass and Buddy Williams on drums. Guest appearances by Harry Allen on saxophone and Warren Vache on flugelhorn add spirit and depth. The album was one of the last recordings ever made at the historic Nola Recording Studios, with the great Jim Czak as engineer. Kat herself has a soul steeped in jazz. She is a singer who takes the melody and lyric and makes them new and unique for the listener, a singer who knows how to capture and keep an audience through the build of a song, and the changes in feel and emotion. The clarity and focus in her delivery is enchanting.
