Modern/Straight Ahead Jazz Guitarist
Justin Wert began playing jazz gigs professionally at age 16 in his hometown of Seattle, Washington. After attending college full time at age 16 and studying with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ron Eschete, and John Stowell, he moved to New York City in 2003 at the age of 19. Since then he has taught guitar at the Eastern School of Music in Little Neck, as well as at Riverbank State Park, he has played two 4-month jazz trio contracts for Carnival Cruise Lines, and he has played the Ellensburg Jazz Festival with the Ingrid Jensen Quartet. Over the last two years he has hosted regular weekly jam sessions with his trio as part of the growing Cortelyou Road Brooklyn jazz scene. Justin currently plays with Daniel Foose on bass and Kim Garey on drums as the Justin Wert Trio, and you can also find him every Wednesday at Benoit with world class bassist Corcoran Holt.
