Julian Wittich is a Taiwanese-Dutch bassist and composer based in Taipei and New York City.

Julian Wittich (b. 1999) is a Taiwanese-Dutch bassist, bandleader, and composer based in Taipei and New York City. Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Julian first studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in The Netherlands and at Manhattan School of Music in New York City under jazz bass legend Buster Williams. He has established himself in both the Taiwanese jazz and pop music scenes, recording and performing with world-class artists such as 張惠妹 aMEI, 林俊傑 JJ Lin, 9m88, 黃宣 YELLOW, 陳若玗 Jo-yu Chen, and 許郁瑛 Yuying Hsu, with performances at the 金曲獎 Golden Melody Awards, 兩廳院 Taipei National Theater and Concert Hall, 衛武營 National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, 浪人祭 Vagabond Festival, and Taichung International Jazz Festival. In New York, he has shared the stage with luminaries such as Grant Stewart, Chris Byars, Jon-Erik Kellso, former Jazz Messenger Philip Harper, and has performed at notable NYC venues including Smalls Jazz Club, Ornithology Jazz Club, The Django, and Zinc Bar. Julian most recently released his debut album, Tidelines, a mix of his own original compositions along with jazz and Brazilian music, in June 2026. The album features GRAMMY Award nominated artists Bob Sheppard and Rogério Boccato, as well as three young rising stars in the NYC jazz scene: Eric Stern, Willie Bowman, and June Cavlan.

My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to jazz when my dad put on Oscar Peterson's A Night in Vienna (2004) Live DVD. I was 12 or 13 years old and it was the first time I truly paid attention to anything jazz-related. I was immediately entranced by the musicians' virtuosity as well as the complex harmonies that I had never previously been exposed to. After that, I knew I wanted to become a musician.
