About Me
Josef Woodard has been a music journalist-critic for many years, with a specialty in jazz and contemporary classical music, but also pop, opera and world music. He has written for All About Jazz, Down Beat, Jazz Times, the Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Jazziz, Jazz Hot, Opera Now and other publications, along with various and sundry other contexts. He won an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for jazz writing in 1998, and has published two books: Charles Lloyd: A Wild, Blatant Truth, and Conversations with Charlie Haden, both published by Silman-James. his musician hat on, Woodard is a guitarist-songwriter- situationist, involved in the independent Household Ink Records label, founded in 1987, and his projects include the “new music combo” Headless Household.
