My Jazz Story
I love jazz because...it is beautiful, truly original and moves me with its intelligence, rhythmic and otherwise.
I was first exposed to jazz...as a night club security person.
I met so many musicians like Etta James, Bobby Bland, Hugh Masakela, George Benson, Jorge Dalto, etc., etc.,
The best show I ever attended was a session with Poncho Sanchez. I couldn't believe how it spiritually carried me to a
high place.
The first jazz record I bought was...a Manhattan Transfer album
My advice to new listeners...is come with your best, most critical and most open mind.
My House Concert Story
I recently caught Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz ensemble at NJPAC. To hear great and sensational music is one
thing, but to have it told from the perspective of the artists real life experiences, was truly a historic and special moment for
me. The music was technically and spiritually exquisite.
