About Me
A native of Humacao, Puerto Rico, Jorge Castro studied saxophone and flute at the famed “Escuela Libre de Música”; an institution that boasts distinguished alumnus throughout the musical world. Later moving to Chicago, the saxophonist developed his interest in jazz while studying with Ron Carter, Steve Duke, Joey Sellers and Fareed Haque (among others) at Northern Illinois University. Castro later moves to New York City expanding and growing musically while also studying with world renown jazz saxophonist David Sánchez. Jorge is currently working on his debut album. Jorge has performed and/or recorded with a diverse array of artists and groups including: Latin Jazz All-Stars, Ruben Blades, Steve Turre, Randy Brecker, Giovanni Hidalgo, Lionel Hampton Tribute Band, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Valentin, Jason Marsalis, Robin Eubanks, Russel Gunn, Kevin Mahogany, The Big 3 Palladium Orchestra, Foreigner, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Claudio Roditi, Hilton Ruiz, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Brian Lynch, Pete Escovedo, Eva Ayllon, The Latin Giants of Jazz, Tito Puente Orchestra, The Mambo Legends, Machito Orchestra, Giovanni Hidalgo, Joe Baione, Ralph Irizarry, Timbalaye, Bobby Sanabria Big Band, 911 Mambo Orchestra, Arturo O'Farril Big Band, Tito Puente Jr., Dean Pratt Big Band, Afromantra, Jimmy Bosch, Alfredo De La Fe, Candido Camero, Andy Montañez, Victor Manuelle, Cheo Feliciano, Karl Perazzo, Ray Vega, Angel David Mattos, Taller Sica, Multicultural Music Group, Huey Dunbar, Jerry Rivera, N’Klabe, Chaworo, Tito Nieves, High Society, Little Jackie, etc. Classical Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, Denver Symphony Orchestra, Green Bay Symphony Orchestra. Jorge has also worked as a composer and performer for the PRTT musical theatre division and for Pregones Theatre.
