My House Concert Story

My Jazz Jam Journey:I have been co-sponsoring a Jazz Jam & Open Mic with Johnny Johnson, at Sour Mouse NYC for over 3 years, and is has been a remarkably invigorating experience. While I am also the host, and managing the interns and talent sign-in sheet, i'm having a blast being surrounded by music, street art and a supportive community of singers and musicians. When we started the Jam in October of 2020, it was not under the best circumstances. Although Governor Cuomo had opened up the restaurants and venues at 50% capacity, following the Covid19 lock down, it was tough to get the event off the ground. The Sour Mouse Game Hall was the perfect room for social distancing, since it was 6,000 square ft, but getting the word our was a real challenge. About a year and a half later, the Jazz by Jorei weekly series was pulling in 18 singers and musicians, and an average of about 60 attendees of all ages. We were were able to attack students, tourists, Jazz enthusiasts, couples, meetup groups. I can honestly say the event takes a time and commitment, and yes, "work", but so rewarding in countless ways. The Jazz by Jorei weekly series runs Sundays 3:30 - 6:45 ! We hope to launch another Jam Session during the week this Spring.
