About Me
Jon is a writer and editor living in Atlanta.
I first started writing about jazz during my time as a music and journalism major at the University of Idaho, where I covered the annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival for the school paper. While in Idaho, I had the privilege to speak with artists ranging from Lou Rawls and Terry Gibbs to Roy Hargrove and Randy Brecker. This amazing experience started me on the path of music criticism, and I soon found myself pursuing a master's degree in Arts Journalism at Syracuse University. Unfortunately, it's a looong drive from Idaho to New York, and it never stops snowing in Central New York. But I met my fiancee, and I got to work closely with the critics David Hajdu, David Yaffe and Johanna Keller, so things turned out just fine. I now find myself working and writing in Atlanta, the cultural hotbed of Georgia. I've met some incredible musicians in the two years I've been here, and I'm convinced the city is no longer simply a rap and hip-hop mecca.
