About Me
John B. Arnold is an American drummer and composer. His playing is considered by his peers
as unorthodox breaking from standard approaches be it to his drumming and to his approach
to electronic percussion. In a quote from 2006 John McLaughlin says of his playing: “He is
pushing the barriers of contemporary drumming to new heights with the innovation of new
concepts in drumming and rhythmic expression.”
Born in New York City, Arnold has made numerous recordings as a leader and as a sideman
over the years alongside, Kenny Garrett, Greg Osby, Gary Thomas, Matthew Garrison, Jason
Moran, Chet Baker, John Pattitucci, Jim Beard, Adam Rogers, Larry Goldings and many others.
In 2020 John started the record label TONOS with pianist Greg Burk hosting a variety of
genres and artists. He has chosen to live half of his life abroad between New York, Berlin and
Rome. John is also the grandson of the American composer Hoagy Carmichael.
