Joel Paul
I’m Joel Paul, an Indian-born pianist and composer based in London, creating jazz that blends Indian classical, Western classical, and global musical influences.
About Me
I’m Joel Paul, an Indian-born pianist and composer based in London. Growing up with Indian classical music, I discovered jazz as a space where I could blend my cultural roots with improvisation and global musical influences. Roots, my debut album, is a reflection of this journey, exploring heritage, memory, and identity through music. With collaborators Manuel Filgueiras (drums) and Rafael Silveira (bass), I’ve performed in London and internationally, bringing my vision of jazz as a bridge between cultures to audiences around the world.
My Jazz Story
Jazz has been a lifelong companion in my journey as a musician, but my story is shaped by a blend of cultures and traditions. Born in India, I was surrounded by the rich
textures of Indian classical music from an early age, while Western classical music and jazz opened doors to improvisation, emotional storytelling, and a global musical
conversation.
I moved to London to further my musical education and explore new ways to express myself. Jazz became the perfect language to bridge my cultural heritage with
contemporary influences. Over time, I began composing pieces that reflect my personal experiences, my memories, and the stories of my journey across continents.
My debut album, Roots, embodies this journey. Each track is inspired by a different aspect of my identity and influences — from Indian ragas to Latin rhythms, from
Western classical lyricism to global musical traditions.
Jazz, for me, is more than a genre; it is a space to connect, to reflect, and to share a story. Through Roots, I invite listeners into my world, a place where cultures meet,
memories resonate, and music speaks beyond words.
