About Me

Joe Pino, trumpet and flugelhorn, started playing trumpet at the age of ten. In High School, he was selected to play in the Beverly High School Jazz Band that competed at jazz festivals put on by The International Association of Jazz Educators. From these festivals, Joe won many outstanding soloist awards including two given by Herb Pomeroy and Greg Hopkins. In Joe’s senior year of high school, he won an outstanding soloist award from a jazz competition in New York City competing with over 20 jazz bands in the country. Joe earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance in May 2008 from Berklee College of Music. He has appeared in many jazz venues in the New England area with his quintet including Ryles Jazz Club, and Chianti Jazz Lounge. He has also played at many venus with The Boston Horns, Soul Force V, and The Boston Horns Big Band while also playing lead and second trumpet in pit orchestras for theatre productions of Guys and Dolls, Curtains, Music Man, Oliver, Anything Goes, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and The Pajama Game. In July 2010, Joe played third trumpet in the musical production of Gypsy at The North Shore Music Theatre staring Vicki Lewis. He has also performed at clubs in New York City including Smalls Jazz Club, The Fat Cat, and Cleopatra’s Needle. In the summer of 2009, Joe had the great honor to performed with James Montgomery, Barrence Whitfield, Mark Walker, and Oscar Stegnaro at The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival. Studied and worked with the following musicians: Jim Rotondi, Brian Lynch, Jeremy Pelt, Garret Savluk, Rick Hammett, Jay Daly, Jeff Stout, Jeff Galindo, Mark Walker, Oscar Stagnaro, Charlie Lewis, Lin Biviano, Ken Cervenka, Tiger Okoshi, Scott Aruda, George Garzone, Henley Douglas Jr., Mike Tucker, Benny Benson, Kenwood Denard, Livingston Taylor, Matt Wilson, and Victor Mendoza
