Joe Burgstaller is a New York-based trumpet soloist and educator (Peabody Institute, Baltimore, MD).

About Me

Trumpeter and crossover artist JOE BURGSTALLER has performed and taught in hundreds of cities throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, and has performed and taught at over 80 universities, conservatories and colleges around the world. He tours as a soloist, with his crossover group BM4 (Burgstaller Martignon 4), and as a clinician and teacher, traveling the world hundreds of days every year. Burgstaller is a Distinguished Faculty member at The Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, MD, where he teaches trumpet, chamber music and a special Performance Class series for all instruments. Joe has the distinction of being a former full-time member of both of the premiere brass groups in the history of their respective fields: Canadian Brass and the avant-garde Meridian Arts Ensemble. With Canadian Brass, Joe was often featured as a soloist, and the group performed and recorded his arrangements (AllMusicGuide.com heralded his “superb set of arrangements” for the music of Astor Piazzolla). As a member of the Meridian Arts Ensemble, Mr. Burgstaller received the ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award, and recorded his compositions and arrangements. Gramophone heralded his original work Lullaby “an understated gem.” Burgstaller was also one of the all-time most popular soloists at Columbia Artists’ Community Concerts, performing nearly 60 solo concerts each season with his Joe Burgstaller: The Rafael Méndez Project. The Instrumentalist dubbed him “The Next Méndez.” Joe is the inaugural recipient of Distinguished Alumnus Awards from both Arizona State University and Eastern Music Festival. He is in his second decade as a Yamaha Performing Artist, and has an extensive discography. Three Canadian Brass CDs featuring Joe hit the Top-Ten Billboard Charts, and his latest CD with BM4, “Mozart’s Blue Dreams & Other Crossover Fantasies”, vaulted straight into the Top 50 JazzRadio Charts. Their next release, “Bach’s Secret Drawer & More Crossover Fantasies” will be released in April 2011.
