Joan A. Cararach

Joan is the Barcelona Jazz Festival's artistic director.

About Me

Former opera and classical writer, and failed alto saxophone player, I've been the Barcelona Jazz Festival's artistic director since 2003.

As AAJ's Spanish language senior editor, I provide coverage of musicians from Europe to Latin America to the United States. I'm also the author of the official centenary book of the Palau de la Música Catalana and co-author (with Guillem Vidal) of the book celebrating the 40th edition of the Barcelona Jazz Festival, published in Catalan, Spanish and English. My last book (published on February 2011) is dedicated to the Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
