I love jazz because... I grew up in an extremely musical family, I was always listening to, and playing music, and I went to school for music. I was first exposed to jazz... By my father and his record collection. I would spend hours and hours transcribing Stan Getz solos from records. I met [musician name]... Wow, Maynard Ferguson, Dizzy Gillespie, Michael Brecker, Seamus Blake, Sonny Rollins, Steve Marcus, Denis DiBlasio, Ron Kerber, and sooo many more... The best show I ever attended was... I honestly cannot say any were better than any others. I approach music with an open mind, and while they are all different, they are all their own. To compare shows is unfair to the performers and to the music. The first jazz record I bought was... Michael Brecker's solo debut - that opened my ears to a sound that I had never heard before that day - and I fell in love with my saxophone all over again. My advice to new listeners... Support musicians and music ! Go out and see live shows, buy records, take it all in, enjoy it, love it, and share it. Without you, the music fades away into nothingness...
