My Jazz Story

I was founder Board Member & Trustee of Ribble Valley Jazz & Blues, based on Clitheroe, Lancashire, UK in 2007, and was festival director for our first 10 Jazz & Blues Festivals from 2010. We are a charitable company that, in addition to running a jazz festival, run monthly jazz gigs, two big bands, a monthly jazz jam, jazz workshops, and a weekly radio show on Ribble FM at 9pm on Wednesday evenings - with a monthly rotation of four programme presenters who each feature different jazz styles! Our aim in to increase participation in jazz for both musicians, and audiences. Central to programming our jazz events is the need to promote diversity - equality of access in terms of gender, age, youth, disability, minority community. We are associate with Keychange, and support Black Lives Matter. We promote the Geoff Jackson Youth Jazz Award, nominating a young jazz musician annually for special treatment annually. We are conscious of the extra responsibility of promoting jazz in a largely rural community - the largest rural district council area in Lancashire, United Kingdom.
