About Me
“JAZZMENSOUL”
A style all his own
If music opens a portal to the soul, then musicians and singers ( for the
most part one in the same, singers are musicians ) are the gatekeepers.
They find their own personal ways to express the experiences of the
soul. Whether it be the joy of found love and friendship, the anguish,
anger and despair of love lost or unrequited, the call for change due to
political unrest and especially the unwavering belief that “GOD” exists
and is the only reason that we are able to translate these emotions into
language. Enter Jazzmensoul, one such gatekeeper with a style all his
own.
His musical initiation was initiated, not by him, but by a teacher who
chose him to be part of an ensemble to sing at a Junior High School
graduation ceremony. He had never before entertained the thought of
being a professional singer, songwriter and arranger. His interests at the
time laid elsewhere. But, nonetheless, his interest was piqued by this
music possibility. It was so much so that when he entered high school
an offer to join an accapella quartet was extended, and he accepted
gladly. Proceeding down this musical roadway gave him an education
on the precision of the movements in harmony singing. This experience
with harmony would serve him greatly later on in his journey.
By some estimations, a few have concluded that Jazzmensoul is mostly
former (Jazz) and little latter (Soul). Those estimations would be
amazingly incorrect. Jazzmensoul is a vocalist that is as equally at
home with R&B, Funk, Soft Rock, Gospel and Soul as he is with Jazz.
This statement is evident at a good portion of his live concerts, where
you may see the transformation of a Jazz trio or quartet into an R&B,
Soul and Funk rhythm section.
The Brooklyn, New York native has had the pleasure of rubbing elbows
and or working with such music notables as, Stanley Banks ( bassist for
George Benson ), Lorenzo Boston ( former drummer for James Brown ),
Fred Thomas ( bassist for James Brown ), Yovanne Pierre ( former A&R,
current master keyboardist & songwriter ), Maeceo Mobley ( drummer for
the Manhattans ) and Eric Frazier ( all around industry insider &
percussionist ). These are only a few creative forces that Jazzmensoul
has been privileged to be around.
These days, Jazzmensoul performs at various venues around NYC with
his eclectic rhythm section. He mixes cover tunes with his own original
songs to complete his set lists. Check out some of his music at
