About Me
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Jason Washington comes from a deeply musical family. His father, a worship pastor and musician, nurtured his early passion for rhythm. From a young age, Jason was captivated by the drums, growing up playing in church and studying the craft under the influence of the city’s seasoned musicians. His formal music education began in middle school and continued through Temple University, where he refined his skills and developed his voice as a jazz drummer. After returning to Pittsburgh, Jason quickly established himself as a sought-after sideman, collaborating with many of the city’s finest musicians. In recent years, he has been a regular fixture in the bands of saxophonist Tony Campbell and trombonist Reggie Watkins, bringing his dynamic and expressive playing to stages across the region. Beyond performing, Jason is passionate about mentorship and education. He has had the privilege of teaching at Center of Life, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit dedicated to cultivating young musicians and fostering the next generation of jazz artists. Outside of music, he enjoys being a father and cherishes spending time with his daughter, finding inspiration in both family and his craft.
