Musicians, curious
Graduated in Saxophone and Jazz Music, he has had some of his most significant study experiences with Joe Henderson, Steve Lacy, David Liebman, Lee Konitz, Bruno Tommaso, and Enrico Rava. Particularly important were the years of study with Franco D'Andrea. Since the early 1990s, he has led groups and projects presenting original music, operating within the realm of improvised music and interaction with other expressive forms. He has performed, among others, with Franco D’Andrea, Steve Bernstein, Enrico Rava, Roberto Dani, Luca Perciballi, Tito Mangialajo, Giancarlo Bianchetti, Achille Succi, Antonello Salis, Michele Francesconi, Attilio Zanchi, Simone Guiducci, Massimo Manzi, Enrico Merlin, Paolo Botti, Alberto Capelli. He has also played in orchestras led by Henry Threadgill, Mathias Ruegg, and Bruno Tommaso. In the early 1990s, he accompanied singer-songwriter Vinicio Capossela.During the 1990s, he collaborated with American dancer and choreographer Teri Weikel, for whom he composed the music for Il Maestro e Margherita (with Antonello Salis), Atomi, Le città invisibili, Le ali dei sassi, and with whom he performed various improvised solo sax and dance performances. Since 1987, he has regularly performed music and poetry, working mainly with Alberto Bertoni and Enrico Trebbi, and occasionally with Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Gaspare Bernardi, Laura Betti, Maurizio Cucchi, Giovanni Giudici, Gianni D’Elia, Giancarlo Sissa, and Emilio Rentocchini. He has collaborated with painters Carlo Cremaschi, André Che Isse, and Stefano Ricci. In 1996, his piece Paz was included in the CD-ROM Andrea Pazienza: L’antologia illimitata, a complete anthology of the artist’s work. Since 1999, he collaborated for several years with Franco D’Andrea on the Eleven project. From 2000, he was a long-time member of Giorgio Casadei’s Orchestra Spaziale, which, through projects like Orchestra Spaziale meets Zappafrank, Revolver, Visita a casa Beatles, and Holiday in Cartoonia, took part in festivals and live radio performances. Since 2008, he has been a member of the group Cantodiscanto. In April 2008, leading his quintet, he presented compositions from the album Light and Darkness at University Hall in Beijing.
